These are hard bars made from skimmed Himalayan yak and cow milk! Our dogs think they are delicious (and apparently so do people in some parts of the Himalayas although we won’t vouch for it personally!).

When your dog finally gets down to the very last little bit, you can pop them in the microwave to make a fabulously crunchy puffed treat too 🙂

We’ve tried various brands, and our preference is still the original Yaker.

Yakers are made in the Himalayas. A very small amount of lime juice and salt is added to coagulate (harden) the milk, which is then compressed into blocks and smoke dried for 28 days using traditional methods.

This means there can be a bit of variation in colour and shape – and some still have the dimples from the muslin cloth used to compress the cheese into blocks! The milk is skimmed before use, so Yakers are low in fat (5.2%), only the tiniest amount of salt is used (0.1%) and although they do contain some cow’s milk, the levels of lactose are very, very low (<1%) as the cream and whey are removed from the milk during the manufacturing process.
