When something isn’t quite right
Many guardians work incredibly hard to do the best for their dogs.
Playtime, love, comfort. You manage behaviour, adapt your life, practice training. And yet sometimes things still feel harder than expected. Sometimes behaviour changes come out of the blue. Sometimes progress stalls. Sometimes a dog who “should be fine” just… isn’t.
If your dog is struggling – whether that shows up as reactivity, anxiety, sound fears, training plateaus, restlessness, touch sensitivity or just a sense that something isn’t quite right – there is often more going on beneath the surface.
Does this sound familiar?
It can be confusing, worrying, frustrating – even exhausting – especially when you’re told everything looks normal or just ‘keep doing more’.
What’s often missed is that what’s happening in your dog’s body and emotional state shapes what you see on the surface. Behaviour is frequently the first place health and wellbeing struggles show up. Even dogs who cope well on the surface can be carrying hidden physical or emotional load.
This webinar exists to help you spot those links more clearly.
What you’ll take away from this webinar
In this session, Lisa will show you how she joins the dots between physical health, emotional wellbeing and behaviour, using the same wellbeing-led approach that underpins Canine Thinking’s one-to-one work.
This isn’t about doing more. It’s about identifying what might be worth doing differently – and what actually doesn’t need ‘fixing’ at all.
You’ll learn how to look at behaviour through a different lens, spot the small things that are easy to miss, and understand what your dog may be showing you through everyday behaviour patterns – including things you may never have noticed before.
Specifically, we’ll explore:
1. Why health and behaviour are inseparable
How pain, gut health, sleep, stress physiology, other health issues and emotional state all influence what behaviours dogs are able to offer – and why behaviour change is often an early warning sign.
2. Common health-related factors that affect behaviour
A look at issues such as musculoskeletal discomfort, dental pain, allergies, diet and gut imbalance, neurological conditions and chronic stress – and how they commonly show up in day-to-day behaviour.
3. The House of Harmony framework
A simple but powerful way of understanding behaviour through foundations – health, safety, needs and learning – so you know where to focus.
4. What to notice, and what to do with what you see
How to gather better observations without pressure, spot meaningful patterns, and use this information to support clearer decisions and better conversations with professionals.
A calmer, happier dog doesn’t come from ‘just doing more’.
It comes from understanding what really matters – and focusing on the right few things first.
Real dogs, real examples
Throughout the webinar, Lisa will share short case snapshots from her work with dogs experiencing:
