Softer Kongs for puppies to help encourage them to chew appropriate items (not your house!). and is a nice enrichment activity to help settle after playtime. Stuff with wet food or soaked dry food (if you use dry food without soaking, it will just fall out!) or dry food/treats mixed with something soft or sticky. Go easy on peanut butter (we know lots of people use this, but it isn’t great in significant amounts). Cooking some veg in bone broth (for flavour and added nutrients) and mashing it up is a great option (include the bone broth into the mash). You can make a batch and freeze it into kong stuffing size portions. JR pate works quite well too and we like the Naturavetal pure rolls.
Kongs are quite hard for some puppies and create frustration – if this is the case, look at the Kong Quest Star Pod, the Lickimat range and the Kong Squeez Dental Stick (we love this one!)
The manufacturer says…
The Puppy KONG dog toy is customized for a growing puppy’s baby teeth, the unique, natural rubber formula is the most gentle within the KONG rubber toy line. Designed to meet the needs of a puppy’s 28-baby teeth, it helps teach appropriate chewing behaviour while offering enrichment and satisfying a younger pup’s instinctual needs while the erratic bounce make it ideal for those pups that just want to play. A stuffed Puppy KONG occupies busy little ones while allowing pet parents the freedom to attend to their unique needs. Want to make crate training easier or extend play time? Be sure to stuff with puppy kibble and a dash of peanut butter.
