Our favourite harnesses
Brilliant for most dogs as a general purpose walking and day to day activity harness.
Soft fleece, highly adjustable, easy to put on, great range of colours and they wash and wear beautifully.
How do they work?
Perfect Fit harnesses come in three pieces:
- a coloured top piece (which sits on your dog’s back, between their shoulder blades)
- a black front piece (which sits on their chest, attaches to the top and feeds between front legs to attach to the girth)
- a black girth piece (which does up around your dog’s rib cage).
The exception is the tiny range where the front and girth are so small they are manufactured as a single piece!
The pieces come in 4 size ranges. The name of the ranges refers to the width of the fleece straps – tiny, 15mm, 20mm and 40mm. Within each range, each of the pieces comes in a number of different sizes. Each harness also has 5 points of adjustment for more subtle adjustments. So you really can get a pretty perfect fit!
Remember, you have to choose all three pieces (top, front, girth) out of the same range (tiny, 15mm, 20mm, 40mm). You can’t have a 15mm top and, say, a 20mm front and girth – the clips won’t fit together!
How do I get the right size harness for my dog?
So here’s the slightly trickier bit. You need to measure in 3 places to get the best fit (Perfect Fit suggest just measuring girth, but when we do this with our clients, we also look at the neck measurement and the length needed from chest to girth as well). The girth measurement gives a guide as to which range you need (sometimes your dog might fall into two ranges – use the bigger range if your dog tends to pull as the wider straps help disperse the force more effectively).
Based on the girth measurement, Perfect Fit then also suggest combinations of piece sizes to suit particular breeds.
For clients who book a harness advice and fitting session with us (which we do online over zoom), we also use the other two measurements to determine the right pieces and then make the harness up for you before we send it out, adjusting it as close as we can to exactly what you need!
